What’s at Stake?

Over the past century, tens of thousands of Missouri workers were exposed to poisonous toxins in the workplace. Many employers knew of these dangers and chose to look the other way. Decades later, these workers are developing deadly cancers and diseases.

Legislation Hurts U.S. Veterans

State legislatures throughout the country are pursuing efforts to restrict and roll back the rights of veterans who are sick and dying of asbestos-related diseases. Missouri is no exception. Check the map.

Statement of Support: ADAO

“On behalf of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), an independent nonprofit organization, I implore legislators, public health advocates and the citizens of Missouri to oppose any legislation that shifts legal or financial burdens to workers and their family members who have suffered occupational diseases like mesothelioma.  It is critically important to occupational safety and health that companies be held responsible for their actions and that families receive prompt, fair and just compensation from their employers and companies responsible for willful neglect of human rights.”

Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was founded by asbestos victims and their families in 2004 and seeks to give asbestos victims and concerned citizens a united voice to raise public awareness about the dangers of asbestos exposure. ADAO is an independent global organization dedicated to preventing asbestos-related diseases through education, advocacy, and community. Learn more at www.asbestosdiseaseawareness.org.

Statement of Support: Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation

“The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation serves families affected by mesothelioma – including those in Missouri. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis that is often occupationally-related. This rare asbestos cancer is not a typical workplace injury and should be treated accordingly. On behalf of the Meso Foundation, I write to inform you of our opposition to any legislation that allows corporations that produced or distributed asbestos-containing products to avoid responsibility for the deaths and injuries of millions of Americans caused by those products.”

Kathy Wiedemer, Executive Director of the Meso Foundation

The Meso Foundation is the leading organization dedicated to eradicating mesothelioma and easing the suffering caused by it, by funding peer-reviewed mesothelioma research, providing patient support services and education, and advocating Congress for increased federal funding for research. Mesothelioma funding, per death, has historically been extremely low, especially when compared to other cancers. The Meso Foundation was founded in 2000 to address this imbalance and since then has independently awarded over $7.6 million in mesothelioma research funding.
